slow & easy

i got out this morning for an easy 5 miles at 8:25 pace. temps were in the mid 40’s and the sky was clear so i could see all the stars. overall i didn’t feel too bad. my quads are sore when i was going downhill and i didn’t push very hard for any uphills. it shouldn’t be too long before i can start rolling some more miles.

i think with my Lakefront effort that i should be in a tie for 1st place in the Badgerland Striders Club Champs Long Series. the last race is the Discovery 15K on the 28th. it would be nice to get a 1st place plaque before moving up to the 35-39 age group next year.

looking forward to the Chicago 50K, i plugged my time for Lakefront into a calculator and it predicts out to ~3:45 for a 50K. my PR is 4:36 from back in 2001. i think i’d like to focus on "sub4" for the 50K which would be 7:45 pace. if i could hold myself back for that first 20 miles and see how i felt for the last loop…it would be the smart way to run that race.
