out-n-about
after two days in a row on the treadmill, it made sense that i headed out for some fresh air. i brought gear and headed out during lunch on my normal route. unfortunately the city doesn’t plow out the park sidewalks so i had to modify my route a bit. regardless, i mustered 6.25 miles in a little over 50 minutes and hit the shower.
if you have a moment, check out my dad’s debut as elvis at my sister’s wedding reception held at the MGM Grand in Vegas back in May of 2005.
no socks? no worry.
i didn’t get out to run this morning so i hastily packed gear and headed out the door. i was a few miles away from home before i realized i didn’t pack any socks. on my way into work, i stopped at kohls to some up.
i hit the treadmill again today for no particular reason. my first mile was my normal warm up starting at 6 mph and increasing the speed by .5 mph after each quarter mile. starting my second mile i was at 7.5 mph (8:00 per mile pace) and at 1.25 miles i began increasing the speed by a tenth each quarter mile until reaching 9.4 mph (~6:20 per mile pace) at 5.5 miles. i then backed it down to 8 mph for a final quarter mile to cool down a bit and then hit the shower.
catching up
saturday afternoon i ran 6 miles in a fresh layer of snow. when i got home i grabbed my shovel and cleared my driveway…again.
sunday afternoon – after christmas shopping – i ran 7 miles. my pace was better due to most of the snow being removed from the streets. running in the sunlight was nice as well.
monday i brought gear and ran during my lunch hour. i figured that i could run an extra mile on the treadmill with the time i would save by not changing into my outdoor gear. i ended up with 6 miles in 45 minutes and hit the shower.

treadmill time
i had some work i needed to attend to at our company’s fitness center so i brought along gear and hit the treadmill after i was done. the televisions were tuned to sienfeld reruns – which i’m not really a fan of – with closed captioning so you could enjoy your ipod and read the tv. they actually ran an episode that i had seen…which was chock full of classic material. they had the "jimmy" character who talked about himself in the 3rd person, plus kramer was mistaken for a challenged individual and got to meet mel torme. my personal favorite was that george was bemoaning the shower that "didn’t take." that’s happened to me in the summer when it’s blazing hot outside and i hit the shower but still end up sweating like a pig for an hour afterward. regardless, i did what i could not to guffaw to heavily while running on the ‘mill and ended up with 5 miles in a little over 39 minutes.
noontime ice skating
i brought gear with me today and headed outside for a brief 5 mile effort during the lunch hour. admittedly the footing was lousy with many spots completely glazed over with ice. i shuffled along and did a little improv on my normal route to keep me on lightly traveled roads so i could run in the street. heading back i saw a walker on the sidewalk slip and fall flat on his back. i stopped to make sure he was ok, which thankfully he was. He went on to say that he now understood why i was out in the street.
today’s effort puts my odometer at 26,219 miles which – as my astute co-worker and fellow runner pointed out – is the equivalent of 1,000 marathons.
