off the reservation
i didn’t get out to run this morning so i packed some gear and headed out during lunch. temps were high for this time of the year but running along the lake moderated them. i did notice some sail boats out-n-about on the lake as the winds were up from the south. i ran without a watch (since i forgot it at home) but figure i was somewhere around 8:15 pace for 5 miles.
the next two days will be without a daily constitutional since i’ll be in michigan. admittedly, it doesn’t break my heart to have some time away from running. i did muster 40 miles for the first taper week. next week i should be in the low to mid 30’s for miles. just a little over 2 weeks to go until 26.2.
get-r-done
this morning was a bit cooler with temps in the upper 50’s. the run itself was rather nondescript as i just headed down madison and up moreland for 3 miles then turned around and headed for home. it still takes those first three miles to wake up a bit before the legs start feeling semi-fluid. i’m planning on running tomorrow morning then taking saturday and sunday off as i’ll be in michigan visiting family.

easy does it
this morning felt a bit more "summerish" with temps in the low 70’s and a bit more humidity than has been around as of late. i headed down comanche then up university and made the turn around at UW-W. admittedly, i was more or less sleep running this first 3 miles. heading back is generally downhill and my pace picked up a bit. regardless, i ended up with 6 miles at 8:40 pace and hit the showers.

shooting star
this morning, while waiting for my GPS to sync up with the satellites, i was staring up at the stars and trying to figure out if i was looking at the big or little dipper. i did some looking around on the internet and had a few pointers but i didn’t make heads or tails of it. the cool thing was that a brief arc of light wizzed across the sky up in the general area i was looking. my guess is it was a meteorite burning up but i suppose it could have been little green aliens too.
regardless, i headed out along the glacial drumlin trail towards wales. its pretty much pitch black for the first 30 minutes of the run. as i’m rolling along, i notice a faint glow of light being cast in front of me. i turned around and saw a bright light headed in my direction. as it drew closer, i figured out that it was a cyclist out for a morning run. he whirled by with a "good morning" to which i responded the same. nothing like being polite in the wee hours of the morning.
i made the turn at 3.5 miles and paused for a bio break. (which is awful nice rather than the potential agony of city running) heading back was relatively uneventful but i did get to see the gradual brightening of the sky as the sun came up. i did catch up to another morning runner and briefly chatted with him before we headed back to our respective homes.
overall, i ran seven miles in slightly under an hour. nothing zippy, but enough to stretch the legs and work up a sweat.
