end of august…already
this morning i got out at 5AM and headed on a 9 mile loop. about 3 miles into the run, a black cat crossed my path. now, at 5:24AM any cat is going to look black but i’m not too superstitious so i carried on. shortly after 4 miles a raccoon crossed my path and gave me a disparaging stare as i ran by before disappearing into the brush. i weaved my way through bethedsa park as the sun was coming up and took a pit stop when i was on the glacial drumlin trail. as i continued down the trail, i chased off a few rabbits that were wandering about. they must be brave because they don’t move until i’m within a few strides of them. finally, i made my way up commanche and finished the effort with an average pace of 8:15 per mile.
for the month, i ended up with 201 miles. YTD i’m into the 1400’s and on track for a 2000 mile year. for the week, i’m at 40 miles with a 10 mile run planned for saturday with my dad.
grinding away
this morning i headed out with temps in the low 60’s but 100% humidity. pointing myself down madison street, i looped around frame park and climbed my way back up the hills to casa cameron. i ended up with 8 miles at a little faster than 8:30 pace. for the month, i’m at 192 with one day to go. for the year, i passed 1400 miles on wednesday which puts me on track for 2000 for the year.
my father continues to put me to shame by grinding out 10 milers on a daily basis. he amassed 221 miles for august which was a new record for him. watch out at lakefront, he could be in PR (personal record) shape at age 59!
7 back to back
tuesday i ran 7 miles out and back on the glacial drumlin trail starting at 5AM. the crickets and other bugs were making quite a racket. i ended up running just a little over an hour.
this morning i ran another 7 miles out and back on university avenue. it was a bit muggy and i came back drenched. this time, i was slightly under an hour.
my dad continues to pour it on. i fit in my (measly) 7 miles daily while he’s grinding out 10 miles. unreal.
catching up
friday i took the day off from running. i’ve been a bit short on sleep and opted to cut the (very long) grass in the back yard instead.
saturday afternoon i got in 9 miles in a little under 8 minute pace. i broke out a new pair of running shoes…the 2110’s i got for under $40 awhile back.
sunday we hosted friends and family at our house and i didn’t get out for a run.
monday afternoon i got in 9 miles at 7:45 pace and felt pretty good. it’s amazing the amount of traffic there was on the route. normally, at 5AM-ish, there’s barely anyone out on the roads…let alone exercising.
MTD i’m only at 170. my dad is at 191. i think this may be the first month he finishes with more miles than me…ever. (good job dad)
rain, rain, go away…please!
i woke up this morning and checked the radar on weather.com. a big green blob with yellow highlights was just on the edge of town so i opted to hop back in bed for a few more winks.
i ended up with six miles – at slightly faster than eight minute pace – during the noon hour in very humid conditions. thankfully it was mainly overcast which really saved me.
