finally friday

this mornings effort was much easier than the previous two days as the humidity eased off a bit. instead of arriving home completely drenched, i was only partially drenched. my route was a bit hilly-er than yesterdays effort so i ran the first 3.5 miles in 30:00. doubling back over the same route, i ran the last 3.5 miles in 27:30 for an overall pace of 8:13 per mile.

MTD – 21
YTD – 1,238.5
Odometer – 25,576

looney tunes

""this morning i was headed down to the glacial drumlin trail when i spotted a coyote running across the road. he spotted me first and was headed toward the bushes. i half expected to see a pile of bird seed in the middle of the road with a "FREE" sign perched on top.

thankfully, no bird seed was spotted and no anvils made by the ACME Co. fell in my general direction. it did give me extra reason to pick up the pace a bit, on the off chance that Wile E. was hungry for breakfast.

i ended up heading down the glacial drumlin trail towards town and turned around at bethesda park in 29:30. doubling back over my original path, i headed back up the glacial drumlin trail in 26:40 and hit the shower. it was awful muggy today with temps in the low 70’s.

yesterday, i ran 7 miles mostly on university avenue. my gps watch needed its battery charged so i didn’t get a time on the effort. like today, it was muggy with temps in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.

catching up

saturday’s run was a bust. i headed out a little before 8AM and headed south to the fox river bike trail. i passed 7 miles in an hour (8:30 pace) and was sweating profusely. i kept going to 7.5 miles and turned around. my "technical" shirt was water logged so i took it off and tried running with it wrapped around my waist and partially tucked into my shorts. no dice. so i began running with it rolled up in one hand and my water bottle in the other hand. heading back, i began to slow noticeably. by 11.5 miles, i figured enough was enough and opted to walk it in from there.

therefore, my miles for July end up at 191. 200 per month is the minimum that i like to run at if i’m trying to be competitive. that being said, it is an improvement over the 160 in june.

i took sunday, monday and tuesday off from running. i’m planning on getting back on the wagon on wednesday. i’ll also do some adjusting on my long runs, including moving it to sunday (weather permitting) and starting at 5AM or so. this will give me friday & saturday night to catch up on sleep as well as running in cooler temps without as much sun.

only 67 days until the lakefront marathon…

TGIF

thursday morning i skipped running. it was thundering/lightning outside and i didn’t feel like becoming a human lightning rod.

today i headed out in the muggy/damp conditions and managed 6 miles at 8:06 pace. i had a little more pep in my step after yesterday’s unscheduled day off from running.

i’ll aim for a long run on saturday morning and an easy short run on sunday which should put me over 200 miles for the month. monday and tuesday will then be "off" days from running and wednesday will begin the month of august.

weary wednesday

i rolled out of bed and headed out the door with temps in the low 70’s and overcast skies. i pointed myself down madison then made a few turns to bethesda park then followed college to the glacial drumlin trail and headed home. i mustered 7 miles in about 8:30 pace and was more than happy to hit the shower.

at the moment, i’m feeling a bit tired. my plan is to finish up this week with a total mileage of at least 50 and a MTD mileage of at least 200. i’ll then take three days off of running and pick it up on Aug 1st.
