stuck on me

this morning was a bit soupy with overcast skies, temps in the mid-sixties and high humidity. i ran eight miles out and back on university avenue with a slight negative split and an overall pace of 8:25 per mile. by the time i was finished, my shirt and shorts were soaked and sticking to me. so much for technical gear that wicks moisture!

weekend wrap up

saturday morning i was awake before the alarm went off due to thunderstorms and rain. i took a look at weather.com for the radar view and it looked like the last of the storms would be moving through pretty quickly. so i got in my car headed out to germantown to run long with my friend dana, who’s also signed up for the lakefront marathon. we headed out and got some added rain for the first mile or two, but no thunder or lightning. the pace quickly got under 8 minute pace when i had to holler "uncle" and keep the effort around the 8 minute mark.

we hit the turn at slightly under 8 minute pace and while heading back noticed a big dog running ahead of us without a leash. opting to be safe than sorry, we crossed over to the other side of the road. at 10M i gulped down an energy gel as i was feeling lousy. climbing back into dana’s neighborhood, my turnover and lift was minimal and i was stuck in more of the marathon shuffle. we called it quits at 14 miles (~1:51) and walked the half mile back to his house.

for the week, i ended up with 50 miles. for what it’s worth, i am noticing a few more twinges in my achilles tendons than i had the week prior.

sunday i took the day off as we were hosting my dana’s 1st birthday party. she got a piece of cake and was a complete mess after figuring out how to eat it. (she even started licking her high chair’s table top to get the purple frosting!)

monday morning i headed out on the glacial drumlin with temps in the mid-50’s…just the way i like it. i ran four miles out at 8:30 pace and came back in slightly under 8:00 pace for a net pace of 8:14.

TGIF – short commute today

i took my morning constitutional at a more civilized pace today as i opted to work from home today. temps were around 60 degrees and the humidity is low. i ended up with 7 miles in just under 58 minutes for roughly 8:15 pace. for the week, i’m up to 36 miles with one day left. if i can roll myself out of bed and get in a long run, i should be over 50 miles for the week.

start slow

this morning i was a bit slow to answer the alarm clock and finally got out the door at 5:25AM. temps were in the upper 50’s and it was quite pleasant. i ran out and back on the glacial drumlin trail for a rather uneventful 7 miles in a little over 55 minutes which is slightly under 8 minute pace. i did spot a small trampoline that a neighbor put by the curbside and told my wife about it. alia (our 4 year old) has been asking for a "jumpoline" and this may suit the bill.

wednesday wobble

what a difference a day makes. i headed out with temps in the low 60’s and much lower humidity. i headed up university and spotted a guy pulling toilet paper out of his tree. as i ran by i commented "at least it didn’t rain" to which he chuckled. on my way back, i spotted a guy with a loaded backpack doing a powerwalk with a brick in each hand. must be a new fitness fad.

regardless, i ended up with 9 miles in slightly over 70 minutes which translates to 7:46 pace. the first two miles i ran at 8:30 pace so i must have been around 7:30 per mile for the last 7 miles.
