back at it
i took some downtime from saturday through monday to allow some minor aches to heal up a bit. this morning i did an easy five miler and felt pretty good. thankfully the humidity is easing off from what we had over the weekend.
doh! a deer
8/6 – 6 miles (spotted two deer in town)
8/7 – 7 miles (my right hand got stung by something while i was running)
on a daily basis it is becoming more apparent that we are fading into the fall. my morning constitutionals are beginning when it is rather dim outside and will slide further into darkness in the coming weeks.
MTD – 49 miles (Aug ’09 Goal: 200+)
YTD – 812.8 miles
Odometer – 28,920.5 miles
blackjack! (21 miles)
8/2 – 7 miles (saw a hot air balloon)
8/3 – off
8/4 – 7 miles (saw two coyotes)
8/5 – 7 miles (rather uneventful)
while it looks like my running is awfully predictable, i do mix up the route daily so it doesn’t feel like “groundhog day” every morning. weather-wise, i couldn’t ask for more. it’s usually tropical this time of the year.
MTD – 36 miles (Aug ’09 Goal: 200+)

go long
i rolled out of bed at about 5:30AM this morning and geared up for a constitutional. temps and humidity were very comfortable and it was overcast as well – – which is perfect for a long run. i headed east towards town then south on the fox river trail. i passed the new target shopping center on sunset and kept heading south. about six and a half miles south i entered a county park on the trail which is a favorite section of mine to run. the trail winds through a small forest along the fox river. i made my turnaround at 7.5 miles with a little more than 64 minutes on my watch.
my return route home was the same as my outbound route. periodically i glanced at my watch and noticed my pace was a bit faster than what i had headed out with. i ended up back at home two hours and five minutes after leaving, which calculated out to a three minute negative split for the effort. all in all i felt pretty good with the fifteen mile effort and walked a bit around the block to cool down a bit.
seven up
7/29 – 7 miles
7/30 – 7 miles
7/31 – 7 miles
i’m finally starting to get my miles to a reasonable level. in may i had mustered 130-something miles and in june i covered 150 miles. over the past three months i’ve been able to slowly add miles without my right foot/achiles giving me issues.
ideally, i’ll be over 200 miles for August but with daughter #4 arriving late in the month my priorities will likely be reordered a bit. regardless, i’m a long way away from my best month ever which was August of 2004 when i covered 300 miles while prepping for the Lakefront Marathon.
MTD – 180 miles (met goal)
YTD – 763.8 miles
Odometer – 28,871.5 miles
