running in the rain
temps were in the upper forties this morning and some rain had moved through before my alarm had sounded. i stumbled downstairs and dialed up weather.com and didn’t see any approaching storms on radar so i geared up. my route took me up university avenue to uw-waukesha, where i did a 180 and headed for home. on the way back, a slight drizzle began and rapidly accellerated to a steady downpour. i adjusted my return route to get home a little earlier to avoid being in the cold rain for too long. as i approached my house, the rain let up so i improvised an extra mile and called it a day with six miles recorded on my GPS.
quick four
i had a small window of opportunity before dinner to fit in a brief run so i geared up and headed out the door. my route took me north through a local park then past the grocery store. after two miles, i did a 180 and headed for home. my effort netted me four miles in a few ticks more than thirty two minutes and i was showered before dinner was served.
afternoon seven
after watching my red wings go up 5-1 with one period to play, i felt comfortable gearing up and heading out for a run. i headed east on the drumlin towards town and ran to bethesda park then doubled back on my outbound route. my effort netted me seven miles in a few ticks better than 57 minutes.
on second thought
i fit in a brief effort in the late afternoon with temps in the lower seventies. my route took me west along the glacial drumlin trail, headed out in the direction of my run in with the family of geese. as i approached the general area where i last encountered the geese, i could see the adult goose aggressively going after cyclists as they were passing by. i did a 180 right then and there to head in the other direction. regardless, i got in 5.25 miles at a pace slightly faster than eight minutes per mile.
short and easy
i got a little later of a start this morning but i managed to fit in an easy four mile effort to the north of my house. my route wound through a city park and past the new fire station before heading uphill by the local grocery store. after two miles, i did a 180 for home.
before heading in to hit the shower, i took a moment to admire my freshly cut lawn that is nearly devoid of dandelions. i must be channeling my (namesake) grandfather as i distinctly remember him bringing family croquet matches to a screeching halt while he went to his garage to fetch a hand clipper to trim a rogue patch of grass.
