drumlin constitutional

i dozed off for a few minutes after turning off the alarm clock and awoke about fifteen minutes later. looking at the clock i rolled my rear end out of bed and got geared up. temps were in the mid-thirties and thankfully the rain has moved out of the area. i headed down comanche and headed west on the glacial drumlin trail. after 2.5 miles i did a 180 and headed for home. once i reached my driveway, i didn’t waste any time heading in to get a shower and make breakfast for the girls.

congrats to my buddy dana who ran an awesome 5K over the past weekend at Gary’s Gallop – – and won the race. he’s got a race report posted on his blog with the details of his effort. last year we did this 5K after running a 20 mile warm-up.

if you ever need motivation to qualify for the boston marathon, you will only need to see the picture associated with an article that ran in the Milwaukee Journal over the weekend titled marathon mission. i met jeff at a race about a week before he headed to miami for his BQ. great guy.

speaking of the Boston Marathon, i’m looking forward to watching the video of the race this weekend. if you missed it, the on-demand video is available at http://bit.ly/15LO5L. i’m looking forward to seeing my canadian “cousin” scott cameron on the coverage as he was front and center on the 2nd wave start.

i am amazed at how it is possible to follow the boston marathon these days. on twitter there was a guy “tweeting” on his cell phone and posting pictures taken by his cellphone online – – live. check out twitter.com/steverunner to see what i mean. my canadian “cousin” scott cameron had his blog automatically updated, while the race was being run, with split times by the Athlete Alert function of the Boston Marathon web site. The Boston Marathon web site also upgraded the online version of the Athlete Tracking so you could follow up to five runners and just press a button to refresh the page. it’s too bad that we didn’t get an American winner, but a pair of “bronzes” is certainly progress.

cold rain

i skipped running on sunday and monday because of cold temps and rain. i even skipped running this morning as it was still raining and only in the upper thirties. i got home after work and my family was still at swim practice so i quickly geared up for a short run. shortly after i started, it began to rain again. it started slowly but before i knew it it was a steady downpour with a brisk wind. essentially i turned up the volume on my ipod, put my head down and kept placing one foot in front of the other. as i got closer to home, the rain eased up so i improvised an extra mile around the neighborhood. i ended up with five miles and hit the shower.

ten in the sixties

we drove up to my in-laws last night and i got myself out the door by mid-morning for a run along the fox river. the sun was out and the temperatures were already into the sixties. i headed north along the paved bike trail and slowly made my way through the first few miles. after about thirty minutes i started to feel better as my stride smoothed out a bit. i did a 180 after 5 miles and headed back into a headwind for the whole route back. i guess i didn’t mind much as a headwind when the temps are in the sixties is very different than when it is in the thirties. regardless, i mustered ten miles and hit the shower.

MTD – 64 miles
YTD – 274.5 miles
Odometer – 28,382 miles

a rare weekday afternoon run

i took the afternoon off from work so i could be at the ultrasound for our newest addition, whose ETA is late August. turns out we’ll be expecting daughter #4. after making some calls to family and updating my facebook status, i geared up and headed out for a run. my route essentially took me into town along the glacial drumlin trail. after three miles i did a 180 and headed for home. it felt nice to run in shorts with shades but my back tweaked a bit on me on the way home. regardless, i made it home with six miles completed and jogged a lap around the court with my daughters.
