wind and hills

my sunday afternoon constitutional initially had me leaning into a significant headwind for the first few miles. i ran a five mile loop that i hadn’t used in awhile then opted to run to the top of glacial cone park’s hill – – which is a 130 foot elevation gain in less than a quarter mile. some dufus was at top of the hill with his unleashed dog talking on a cellphone. of course the dog had to bound over to greet me and the owner got a clue a few seconds later. regardless, i rolled myself back down the hill and improvised an extra mile or so in my subdivision so i could chalk up seven miles for the day.

MTD – 20 miles
YTD – 230.5 miles
Odometer – 28,338 miles

snain happens

i stepped out the front door this morning and was greeted with the stinging sensation of a light snow/rain mix on my face. perhaps still being groggy blurred my better judgment and i opted to start shuffling down the sidewalk rather than returning to bed. i did head north into the wind so i would get the brunt of the conditions out of the way. after two mile of being pelted, i made a 180 and headed for home with a tailwind. needless to say it was better heading home but it still wasn’t real comfortable. after reaching home, i quickly put the trash out to the curb and headed inside for a shower.

gimme four

i was a little slow to get out the door this morning so i shortened up the run a bit to just four miles. on a positive note, i did remember to start my watch before starting the effort. i did notice one sure sign that spring is on the way as there were birds chirping first thing in the morning.

feeling foolish

i rolled my rear out of bed at about quarter to five and was out the door shortly past five. temps were in the upper thirties which felt comfortable. my route ended up being my five mile loop that has a few good hills on it. i never started my watch but i know i wasn’t running real fast – but i did get out the door.

looking back over the past three months of 2009, i’ve run a little over 200 miles – – which i would normally run in a single month (give or take). that being said, the lower miles have allowed my right achilles to heal up from the tendinitis that i’ve experienced. my right foot is improving too – – but still isn’t quite 100% yet.

seven on the drumlin

i got out for a late afternoon run and opted to go west on the glacial drumlin. oddly enough, i didn’t see a single person on the trail. usually there are walkers, bikers and other runners but none were to be found. regardless, i mustered seven miles and called it a day.
