friday five
nothing scary about my morning constitutional on friday the 13th. my route was down comanche then east on the glacial drumlin trail and a 180 for home which resulted in another five miles to add to the odometer.
catching up
tuesday morning i got out for five miles with temps in the upper 40’s. this morning i ran out and back on the glacial drumlin for another five miles. it’s really getting boring to write about these five mile efforts.
fifty degrees in february
today was a rather rare treat as the temps warmed to fifty and melted much of the snow that’s been piled up. in the late afternoon, i put on shorts and a long sleeve shirt to head out for a short run. my route was pretty simple, down comanche then east on the glacial drumlin and back. it was a bit windy but the sun was out- – which was nice. regardless, i mustered 5 miles at 8:35 pace and hit the shower. i’ve had a slight virus/cold and missed a few days of running during the week. getting outside today felt really good – – spring can arrive anytime now.
one
a quick check of weather.com said it was a balmy single degree fahrenheit this morning. i geared up and headed out the door with my ipod but not with my gps watch. my route was my 5 miler that swings near the hospital before heading back home. about two miles from home i saw yet another driver sail right through a four-way stop. the real drama was about a mile from home when i hit a patch of ice and nearly fell. my effort to keep my balance was not even remotely graceful but it’s not like it matters in the wee hours of the morning.
southbound
i spent much of the late morning and early afternoon folding laundry and watching old olympic videos narrated by bud greenspan. if there is ever a cure for feeling less than motivated, it’s watching recaps of athletes giving their all. while my efforts are much more pedestrian than those who i was watching, it did get me out the door for an afternoon constitutional.
the wind was from the southwest so i headed in that general direction by running on the glacial drumlin then south on the fox river trail. along the way, i passed the water treatment plant and picked up the pace a bit as the stench was foul. i crossed sunset avenue and made it a bit past hwy 164 before turning around for home with 5 miles covered in a few ticks north of 44 minutes. i ran the same route back home and covered the 5 miles return in 43:30 for a slight negative split.
