eight klicks

i was out at buffalo wild wings last night and was able to catch some of the millrose games meet on television. earlier in the day, i signed up for a "fantasy track" contest at www.visachampionshipseries.com but couldn’t quite remember all of my picks. regardless, i checked the results today and should really stick to fantasy football as i didn’t do that well.

late this afternoon i got myself off the couch after a short nap to gear up for a short run before dinner. my wife and kids had already headed out the door for a walk in the balmy mid-30 degree temperatures we had today. i ended up running my regular five mile route that passes by the hospital which i covered in at a pace slightly better than 8:30 per mile.

MTD/YTD – 84.5 miles
Odometer – 28,192 miles

my mileage totals are about as weak as the dow jones industrial. in my case, this was the least amount of miles run in january since 1999. one positive is that i seem to be slowly healing up.

gimme five

i finally rolled myself out of bed this morning for a constitutional. my five mile route took me east to the hospital then west back home. on the way back, i spotted the dog who lunged at me a few weeks back…and it’s owner. apparently the dog still wanted a piece of me as it strained its leash as i passed by. i simply gave them a nod and continued on my way.

no watch no worries

my gps watch wasn’t charged up so i ended up heading out the door late this afternoon without it. temps were in the upper single digits and i had about 20 minutes of running in daylight – – which is a treat. i ended up running down comanche then up university to uw-waukesha. i then did a 180 and headed for home for a total of six miles.

now for some good news to share. the local guy who i met 2 weeks back got his qualifying time for boston at the miami marathon – – 3:09:57 to be exact. it looks like he ran an extremely smart race with a 1:35:03 first half marathon.

left turn running

i met up with my friend dana at the pettit center at 6AM this morning – – right when it opens. temps were in the low single digits outside with wind chills well into the negative range. conditions like that made running in circles much more preferable. mid-way into our run, Chris – who was the RD for the icebreaker indoor marathon – joined us. honestly, having company along made the time pass quickly and before i knew it i had 91 minutes elapsed on my watch. i wasn’t tracking laps so i’ll estimate the miles at 10.5, which puts me just over 30 miles for the week.

MTD/YTD – 68.5 miles
Odometer – 28,176.2 miles

for your viewing pleasure, here’s a great segment on the Icebreaker Marathon

TGIF

it was a bit more windy this morning but the temps were in the lower 20’s – – which feels balmy. i mustered 5 miles by running on comanche and university. today was the second day in a row where i saw someone sail right through a stop sign. i was a bit further away from the intersection so it didn’t get my dander up quite as much as yesterday.

i got to talking with a fellow volunteer last weekend at the icebreaker marathon. turns out he was the son of a former co-worker of mine. he’s headed to miami this weekend and is aiming for a BQ. the local paper in miami published an article on him called Iraq War veteran prepares for ING Miami Marathon. it’s definitely worth a read.
