weekend rewind

saturday morning i was a bit slow to roll out the door but i managed to run 9 miles in a few ticks less than 71 minutes. sunday morning was much more comfortable weather-wise and i ran 6 miles in a few ticks more than 48 minutes. this morning i opted to catch a bit more shut-eye.

congrats to Haile Gebrselassie and his World Best 2:03:59 at the Berlin Marathon. (too bad American media isn’t covering the story) his average pace? 4:43 per mile. that’s downright astonishing.

here’s an update of my weekly mileage breakdown in preparation for marathon #20…

wk 1 – 52 miles
wk 2 – 50 miles
wk 3 – 46.5 miles
wk 4 – 54 miles
wk 5 – 57 miles
wk 6 – 56.25 miles
wk 7 – 45 miles
wk 8 – 70 miles
wk 9 – 30 miles
wk 10 – 45 miles
wk 11 – 30 miles
wk 12 – 6 miles (so far)

cycle-to-date = 541.75

admittedly, i was aiming for 600 miles for the cycle and will likely end up a little more than 550. i think i’ve got enough miles in me to run a decent marathon. from my effort at Al’s Run, i’ve got enough speed to carry me through a marathon. sunday is race day and at this point the forecast looks favorable.

quick five

thursday i opted for a bit of shut-eye. today i mustered 5 miles, opting to leave the watch at home.

back at it

i rolled myself out of bed this morning and geared up for a morning constitutional. my route took me down comanche then up university. after rolling 3 miles i made a 180 and headed back home. with about 2+ miles to home, my buddy dave (AKA double) ran up from behind with his dog. we chatted for a bit before he headed east towards his house. i made it home with 6 miles covered in a few ticks less than 50 minutes and hit the shower.

for your reading pleasure, i’ve (finally) finished my race report on Al’s Run.

more tapering

ok, i call it "tapering" while others call it "sleeping in." regardless, i didn’t make it out this morning for a constitutional.

for your reading pleasure, i stumbled upon a blog entry called Runner looks back on his frightening Briggs & Al’s Run finish which underscores the risks for being less than prepared for a race.

taper time

i’ve got less than 2 weeks to go until marathon #20 at the lakefront marathon and i opted to sleep in this morning. my intent this week is to run 4 or 5 days and let my body rest up a bit.
