a bit of humidity

we got some rain in the morning so by noon it felt a bit more humid than what it has been. mind you, i’m not complaining…it felt good. i ended up running 5 miles at just a few ticks more than 40 minutes and hit the shower. i’m planning on running easy again tomorrow then taking friday off from running. the temps on saturday morning are looking great with a low in the lower 40’s and a high in the lower 60’s. it should be a great day to run in the woods!

off the reservation

i brought along gear and headed out at noon with a co-worker of mine for 5 miles. while we ran along the lake an ice filled cup from a fast food establishment was lobbed out the window of a moving car in our general direction. it fell harmlessly a step behind us and i let out an expletive in the general direction of the car that was driving away. regardless, it was a pleasant day to run outside. temps were around 60 with a sunny sky and no humidity or bugs. we finished around 40 minutes and called it a day.

on the way home from work last night i bought a case of Accel-Gel for the 50K. i prefer "Just Plain – GU" but the cycling store only had the Accel-Gel in stock. i ended up mixing/matching a case of 2/3rd’s vanilla and the 1/3rd lime, raspberry, and strawberry.

a friend of mine from fiserv is running the 50k as well, which will be fun. we’ve got a similar time goal in mind and may get to work with each other on the trail. as far as fuel goes, i’m planning on having 2 gels on me for the first 13 mile loop then picking up 4 gels for each of the 2 nine mile loops that we’ll run. (my dad will have a fit when he reads this…he doesn’t like using only gel while racing) i’ve still got to work out if/when i’ll carry a water bottle…but i have some time to decide.

taking it easy

i had a bit of a cold over the weekend. nothing major but i did take saturday and sunday off from running just in case. i did bring gear and ran an easy 5 miles at lunch today. i’ll be doing similar efforts through this week just to keep the legs loose. the outlook for saturday is mid-40’s in the morning with a potential high in the low 60’s…which is great weather to run long in.

hamster miles

it was pouring rain plus thunder and lightning during the noon hour today…a combination i’d prefer to avoid. i opted to run 5 miles on the treadmill – ipod-less. at least i had the television to watch, otherwise it would have been really boring running in place.

regardless, i did sign up for the IAT50K. now i need to get some GU and some potato soup for breakfast that morning.

wrapping up april

i got out over the noon hour for 6 miles in a bit under 48 minutes. the route back was a bit windy, which isn’t so bad with temps in the upper 40’s and the sun shining. for the month, i ended up with 164 miles…which was a bit low…but i’m still tracking for over 2000 miles for the year.

(there’s now 123 folks registered for the IAT50K.)
