off the reservation
i opted to take both saturday and sunday off from running. my body (and mind) were saying "whoa" and i actually listened. i did bring along gear and ran 6 miles at lunch in 47:20. it was only in the low 40’s with a north wind, but the sun was out which made a big difference.
as promised, here’s a link to the local newspaper for a story on how my buddy dana and others saved a guys life a few weeks back.
finally friday
i took the day off from running on thursday and headed outside for a noon-time junket today. temps were in the 50’s and it was a bit breezy. i headed toward the lake along a new route i learned on wednesday and then headed north. at 3 miles i turned around with about 23:30 elapsed. heading back, i got to head into the wind a bit more which wasn’t so bad considering the temperature. i made it back to campus with 6 miles covered in 46:30.
i do have a bit of an update on the gentleman who had a heart attack at the pettit center. turns out that he normally doesn’t run indoors. due to the 15 inches of snow we got on good friday, he too opted to run in the friendly confines of the pettit. the gentleman ended up recovering and the efforts taken by others – including my friend dana – are being credited with saving his life. the local newspaper is doing a story on the event. i’ll drop in a link when i see it published.
out and about
i ran during lunch with my friend ben who just completed his first ultra at the spring edition of the chicago 50K. he was "full of run" for just covering 31.1 miles on saturday, which was a surprise to me. then again, he’s racked up 14 marathons in a bit over two years. regardless, we got to chat about his experience and ended up covering 5 miles in a few ticks less than 42 minutes.
pep in the step
i headed out at noon with temps in the low 40’s and overcast skies. the wind was off the lake and much lighter than yesterday. i headed out along the lake then through the marina up to the yacht club where i turned around with 3 miles covered in a bit over 23 minutes. heading back, it began to rain. i picked up the pace a bit and made it back with a little over 44 minutes elapsed. (the last half mile was just a bit over 6 minute pace)
off the reservation
i was a bit sluggish from my effort yesterday afternoon so i opted for some noon hour miles. i headed out with temps in the lower 40’s and rather windy conditions. i ran out and back for a total of 5 miles in a few ticks short of 41 minutes.
over the weekend i finished my Dick Lytie Spring Classic Half Marathon race report. sorry, no pictures from the event but the race did have a nice green colored t-shirt.
MTD – 53 miles
